Our 100th anniversary

Nicosia, Cyprus – On Tuesday, 20 May 2025, a landmark event took place at the Presidential Palace to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the association Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou. The event was held under the auspices of the First Lady of Cyprus, Mrs Philippa Karsera-Christodoulides.

The ceremony featured greetings from Ms. Eliadi, representing the Deputy Ministry of Culture, and by Ms. Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, Director of the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation and of the “Merimna Pontion Kyrion Thessalonikis”. Notably, it was the “Merimna Pontion Kyrion Thessalonikis” that, following an initiative by the Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou in 1976, hosted 60 refugee children from Vrysoulles at Panagia Soumela in Vermio.

Following these remarks, the President of the Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou delivered an engaging and insightful address. She explored the significance of the words forming the name Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou, providing a concise yet comprehensive overview of the association’s history, core objectives, and achievements. The presentation was very well-received by the approximately 140 attendees, many of whom expressed their appreciation for gaining a deeper understanding of the vital work performed by the oldest cultural association in Cyprus.

During the event, the association announced an annual award of €500, to be granted to the first-year Architecture student at the University of Cyprus with the highest academic performance.

Upcoming Centenary Events

The association also shared a preview of its remaining 100th-anniversary commemorative events:

• September: An excursion to Vrysoulles, including a visit to the chapel of Panagia Soumela, built by the refugee children hosted by the “Merimna Pontion Kyrion Thessalonikis” in 1976.
• Late August: An event dedicated to the children’s summer camp (‘Paidiki  Exochi ‘) and Student Centre ’Mathitiki Estia’
• Late September: A musical evening hosted in the garden of the premises of the Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou.
• 24 November 2025: A Retro Fashion Show, organized in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, the Friends of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, and the A.G. Leventis Gallery.

The evening concluded with a light musical program, by Ms. Avra Siati (vocals) and Mr. Ioannou (piano), who performed free of charge, followed by a reception hosted by Pnevmatiki Adelfotis Ellinidon Kiprou for all attendees. 

As noted in the invitation, this event was offered free of charge. PAEK invited members of the public who support its mission to follow the Association on Facebook, share their feedback, and contribute their ideas for future activities.
